Salary: $21.00 hourly

             35 hours per week

Overtime: 1.5 times of gross pay after completion of 44 hours

Vacation Pay: 4% on every pay period

Job Type: Permanent employment, Full time 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing and cooking food items according to standardized recipes, ensuring consistency in taste, presentation, and quality. This involves tasks such as chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients, marinating, seasoning, and cooking food to specific requirements.
  • Follow the menu guidelines and recipes provided by the restaurant. They ensure that all menu items are prepared accurately and in a timely manner, coordinating with other kitchen staff to maintain smooth operations during busy periods.
  • Responsible for maintaining high standards of food quality and ensuring that dishes meet the established taste, texture, and appearance expectations. 
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment. This involves following proper food handling and storage procedures and adhering to safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Assist in monitoring and managing ingredient inventory levels by notifying supervisors or chefs when supplies are running low, and ensuring that necessary ingredients are available for food preparation. They may also participate in inventory counts and stock rotation to minimize waste.
  • Work as part of a team and collaborate with other kitchen staff, such as sous chefs, line cooks, and dishwashers. They assist in coordinating food preparation, communicating any special requests or modifications, and ensuring a smooth flow of operations during service.
  • Must have effective time management skills to handle multiple orders and prioritize tasks appropriately. They ensure that food is prepared and served within expected timeframes, coordinating with servers and expeditors to maintain an efficient service flow.
  • Adherence to follow strict food safety and sanitation guidelines to prevent foodborne illnesses and maintain a clean and safe working environment. This includes proper handwashing, temperature monitoring, and compliance with health regulations.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability to the restaurant industry. Must be adaptable to changing menus, customer demands, and kitchen situations. They may need to adjust recipes, accommodate dietary restrictions, or handle unexpected situations while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or certificate is required for this job.
  • Previous experience of 2 to 3 years of working as a cook or in a similar kitchen role is typically required. 
  • A solid understanding of cooking techniques, food preparation methods, and kitchen equipment is essential. This includes knowledge of various cooking methods, knife skills, and familiarity with different types of ingredients and cuisines.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is crucial to ensure the proper handling, storage, and preparation of food. One should have a basic understanding of food safety regulations and guidelines, including proper temperature control, personal hygiene, and cross-contamination prevention.
  • Familiarity and expertise with the south-Indian and east-Indian cuisine offered by the restaurant is beneficial. 
  • Must be able to follow recipes and instructions accurately to ensure consistency in taste, portion sizes, and presentation. Attention to detail is vital to maintain quality and meet customer expectations.
  • The role can be physically demanding, requiring standing for long periods, lifting heavy pots and pans, and maneuvering in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Collaboration and effective communication are essential.
