Position Description

Position: Electrician

Type of employment: Full-Time; Permanent

No of positions: 6

Anticipated Start date: As soon as possible.

Work Environment: The work environment requires the ability to perform in awkward or confining spaces, elevated places, and outdoor and noisy settings, as well as in areas that are dusty and have odors from chemicals, all while adhering to safety requirements and being capable of working in adverse weather conditions.

Work Location: 13-6782, Veyaness Rd, Saanichton, BC, V8M 2A8 and various locations in Vancouver Island, BC.

 

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $29.00 per hour

Job Responsibilities

  • Interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings to determine optimal wiring layouts.
  • Position and install electrical equipment, including switches, relays, circuit breakers, and panels.
  • Cut, thread, and assemble conduits, then pull wires through them as well as through openings in walls and floors.
  • Install and replace electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, and lighting fixtures.
  • Splice, join, and connect wires to various electrical fixtures and components.
  • Add specialized systems like lighting controls and auto backup generators.
  • Test electrical systems to identify loose connections and broken insulation, and isolate faults using hand and power tools.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance programs and maintain relevant records.
  • Identify and rectify faults in electrical and electronic systems by pinpointing issues and replacing faulty components.
  • Perform electrical safety inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Consistently comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, including protective equipment.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required.

 

Job Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Trade certification would be an asset but not mandatory.
  • Good communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical abilities.
  • Able to work well independently and within a team.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • The capability to identify and resolve electrical issues promptly.
  • A strong commitment to safety practices and the ability to identify and mitigate potential electrical hazards.
