Position Overview

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Restaurant Managers to join our team. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of day-to-day restaurant operations, including financial performance, product quality, inventory management, personnel development, and local sales and marketing initiatives. You will be expected to deliver exceptional guest experiences, drive operational excellence, develop and inspire your team, and ensure the restaurant operates within the standards and guidelines set by the owner and franchisor. As an Assistant Manager, you will play a critical role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and energetic workplace while helping to achieve key financial and performance goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all areas of restaurant operations, making final decisions on matters of importance.
  • Lead daily operations to ensure exceptional guest experiences and smooth restaurant performance.
  • Ensure all PRIDE systems, brand standards, and operational routines are consistently implemented.
  • Staff, recruit, train, coach, and develop managers and hourly team members through orientations, ongoing feedback, performance reviews, and team meetings.
  • Create and manage employee schedules to ensure proper staffing, efficient labor control, and strong team engagement across all day parts and sales volumes.
  • Handle guest feedback promptly and professionally, taking appropriate action to ensure customer satisfaction and turn potential concerns into positive experiences.
  • Manage restaurant P&L (Profit and Loss), optimizing profitability by controlling cost of goods sold (COGS), labor costs, and controllable (semi-fixed) expenses.
  • Analyze sales, labor, and food costs to drive restaurant performance improvements.
  • Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure product availability and quality.
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety, sanitation, health, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Manage cash handling procedures, including deposits and point-of-sale (POS) operations, with accuracy and security.
  • Plan and execute local marketing activities and support regional/national promotions to increase brand visibility and drive sales.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall appearance of the facility to create a welcoming, safe environment for guests and staff.
  • Collaborate with ownership and IDQ Canada Business Consultants or field staff on business planning, operational improvements, and achievement of performance targets.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, diverse, and inclusive workplace culture aligned with Dairy Queen’s values.
  • Exercise sound judgment in daily decision-making and escalate significant issues appropriately to ownership.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the owner or designated appointee.

 

Accountability

Manage the entire operation of the restaurant through the development and growth of staff, sales and profitability to meet goals established in location’s business plan. Ensures the restaurant is in accordance with established company standards, policies and procedures. Assists in the success of the restaurant by ensuring guest satisfaction through adhering to company standards for quality, value, service and cleanliness. Maintain a positive working relationship with all restaurant to foster and promote a cooperative and pleasant working climate, which will be conducive to maximize employee morale, productivity and efficiency.

 

Job Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent required).
  • Education in hospitality or food and beverage service management would be an asset but not mandatory.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a quick service restaurant (QSR) environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage, and support a high-performing team.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to professionally handle guest inquiries and resolve complaints.
  • Proven ability to manage the cost of goods sold (COGS) and labor effectively to optimize profitability.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to implement local marketing strategies.
  • Highly detail-oriented with the capability to oversee multiple areas of operations simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a high-volume restaurant, respond quickly and maintain focus.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Professional demeanor, including good manners, proper personal hygiene, positive attitude, and punctuality.
