Overview

• Languages Required: English
• Asset Language: Chinese (The household primarily communicates in Chinese and speaks limited English. Applicants who can speak Chinese will find it easier to communicate. However, if you do not speak Chinese, you may still be considered if you are otherwise suitable for the role. In such cases, you should be comfortable using an instant translation tool to assist with communication.)

Education: Personal Support Worker or related training

Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years

Work Environment: Employer’s home, non-smoking, scent-free

Target Audience: Elderly, males, persons with a disability

Responsibilities

• Assist the senior with daily personal-care tasks such as grooming, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting support, and basic hygiene maintenance
• Provide safe mobility support and guidance using a wheelchair and other assistive devices, ensuring fall-prevention and comfort during daily movements.
• Support simple range-of-motion activities and light doctor-recommended exercises to maintain flexibility and circulation.
• Monitor and observe changes in the senior’s physical or emotional condition and communicate concerns to family members or healthcare providers as needed.
• Assist with daily medication reminders as directed by the family or medical professionals.
• Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals suited to the senior’s dietary needs and cultural habits, including traditional Cantonese-style dishes, to support appetite, comfort, and nutritional balance.
• Encourage sufficient fluid intake throughout the day.
• Provide companionship, emotional support, and meaningful conversation to reduce loneliness and promote mental well-being.
• Communicate with the senior in Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese), as it is necessary to ensure understanding, reduce confusion, and provide safe and comforting care, due to the senior’s limited English ability.
• Accompany and assist the senior on short outings and medical appointments, ensuring physical support and safety when outside the home.
• Perform light housekeeping tasks related to the senior’s care, including tidying the bedroom, sanitizing mobility equipment and frequently touched areas, light laundry, and keeping eating and bathroom areas clean.
• Maintain a clean, calm, and hazard-free environment to prevent falls and support the senior’s safety and comfort.
• Assist with grocery planning and household items needed for the senior, including culturally familiar food ingredients for meal preparation.
• Follow the senior’s daily routine for rest, meals, hygiene, activities, and relaxation to support stability, dignity, and emotional security.

Required Certificates:

• First Aid Certificate
• Personal Support Worker Certificate

Security & Safety: Basic security clearance, drug test

Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence

Weight Handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
