Log brokering, timber cruising, snow removal, landscaping services, sawmill and log-yard operations, and production of rustic log furniture and specialty wood products.

Job Description:

Cedars of the Rainforests Specialty Wood Products Ltd. is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates across forestry operations, manufacturing, and seasonal service contracts. The Cost Estimator will play a key role in pricing projects, managing costs, and supporting operational and financial planning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain directory of supplies and trade contractors
• Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
• Manage and coordinate projects and prepare construction progress schedules.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for log brokering, timber cruising, sawmill operations, and log-yard activities
• Estimate material, labor, equipment, transportation, and overhead costs for specialty wood products and rustic log furniture production
• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
• Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads
• Analyze costs related to snow removal and landscaping contracts, including seasonal labor, equipment usage, and fuel
• Review forestry plans, production drawings, and technical specifications to determine project scope and pricing
• Obtain, review, and compare supplier, subcontractor, and transportation quotations
• Monitor actual project costs against estimates and prepare variance and cost-control reports
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and bid preparation for forestry, manufacturing, and service contracts
• Maintain cost databases, historical pricing records, and market rate comparisons
• Monitor and adjust contract expenditures
• Collaborate with production, forestry, procurement, and management teams to improve cost efficiency

Job Requirements:

            •Experience: Any experience as a Cost Estimator in forestry, manufacturing, construction, or related industries

            •Education: College diploma or Bachelor’s degree in forestry, construction management, engineering, business, or a related field

            •Language: English

            •Knowledge of forestry operations, timber pricing, sawmill or log-yard processes, and wood product manufacturing is a strong asset

            •Experience estimating costs for equipment-intensive and seasonal operations (e.g., snow removal, landscaping)

            •Proficiency in estimating software, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office

            •Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

            •Ability to work independently and meet tight deadline

Work Conditions:

            •Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

            •Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple concurrent projects
