Salary: C$36.60/hr, based on 30-36 hr/wk
Overtime: Overtime will be provided after 8hrs/day, or 40hrs/wk
Benefit: 4% paid vacation
Work Setting: Japanese Restaurant
Education: Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience:

- Several years of working experience in management roles, with at least 1 – 2 years in restaurants and food service settings.

- Prior knowledge of Japanese cuisine and sushi, including key ingredients, preparation methods, and standard dish names.

- Ability to accurately use and understand Japanese food terminology commonly used in menus and operations and to explain these items clearly to guests and staff.

Job Description:

- Plan, organize, and supervise daily operations of the dining room and sushi, including opening and closing procedures, staff deployment, and coordination between kitchen and service teams.​

- Work closely with the head sushi chef to ensure consistent food quality, proper presentation, and adherence to traditional Japanese culinary standards and food safety regulations.

- Train, set schedules, and monitor servers, hosts, kitchen helpers, and other staff; evaluate performance, and participate in hiring and oversee new employees training.

- Handle customer service issues on the floor, respond to feedback, resolve complaints professionally, and build relationships with regular guests to promote repeat business.

- Control inventory of food, beverages, and supplies; place orders with suppliers; check deliveries; and manage stock rotation to minimize waste and control food costs.

- Assist with menu planning, seasonal or promotional items (such as lunch sets, and special sushi rolls), and pricing in coordination with ownership and the culinary team.

- Prepare and review daily sales reports, analyze costs, and help create operating budgets; implement measures to improve profitability while maintaining quality standards.

- Develop and implement service standards and operating procedures appropriate for an authentic Japanese restaurant, including etiquette, greeting protocols, and timing of courses.

- Coordinate marketing and promotional activities such as special events, set menus for holidays, or collaborations with local suppliers to increase restaurant visibility and sales.
