Position Overview – Pipefitter

 

The Pipefitter role is a critical position responsible for the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of piping systems on residential and commercial job sites. This position requires strong hands-on technical skills, a solid understanding of drawings and specifications, and strict adherence to applicable building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, able to work independently, and effective in coordinating with supervisors, apprentices, and other trades in a fast-paced construction environment. Clear communication, professional conduct on site, and a consistent contribution to team efficiency, safety, and overall project success are essential for this role.

Position: Pipefitter

Type of employment: Full-time; Permanent

Anticipated Start date: As soon as possible.

Work Location: Various locations in Edmonton & as per company’s contract.

 

Salary and Benefits

 

Salary: $46.80 per hour

Responsibilities

 

  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to accurately determine layout and setup requirements.
  • Select the most suitable type and size of pipe required for each project, considering project specifications and standards.
  • Adhere to local building codes and stay up to date with any changes to these regulations.
  • Ensure safety by following all relevant standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Make precise cuts in walls, floors, and ceilings to create openings for pipes using both manual and power tools.
  • Accurately measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to achieve the required shape and fit.
  • Install clamps, brackets, and hangers to support piping and sprinkler systems.
  • Apply various techniques such as welding, brazing, cementing, or soldering to secure pipes and joints.
  • Conduct rigorous system leak tests using specialized testing equipment to ensure system reliability and safety.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed piping systems using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Effectively diagnose and replace defective components to ensure optimal system operation.
  • Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of pipe units and fittings, including system flushing, to ensure system integrity and lifespan.
  • Maintain all tools, vehicles, and equipment in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
  • Perform emergency on-call work hours and respond to emergencies as directed.

 

Education, Experience and Skills required

 

  • Completion of secondary school education.
  • Education in relevant trade or minimum 3 years of experience in the trade.
  • Proficiency in using manual and power tools, as well as specialized pipe fitting equipment.
  • Ability to measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to the required shape and fit.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to adhere to safety standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions.
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work independently when needed.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials and equipment.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
