Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years in industrial maintenance, preferably in plastic extrusion in a manufacturing or recycling environment
On site: Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Job Summary

The Extruder Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing extrusion equipment and related auxiliary systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports continuous production by minimizing downtime and ensuring extrusion lines operate within required process and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on plastic extrusion equipment, including single-screw and twin-screw extruders.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues related to extruders and downstream equipment.
  • Service and maintain extrusion components such as screws, barrels, gearboxes, heaters, thermocouples, pressure transducers, dies, and screen changers.
  • Assist with extruder teardowns, rebuilds, and component replacements.
  • Support extrusion line start-ups and shutdowns following maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot process-related issues in collaboration with operators and engineers (e.g., surging, pressure instability, overheating).
  • Maintain auxiliary equipment including feeders, dryers, pelletizers, conveyors, and cooling systems.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and all safety procedures during maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and parts usage records.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment reliability improvement and preventative maintenance optimization.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and basic control system issues related to extrusion equipment
