Job description
A private home is seeking a Home Child Care Provider to care for two children, a 16 year old and an 11 year old, at their home in Toronto, Ontario. This is a permanent, full-time position of 40 hours/week with an hourly salary of $21.50. Regular working hours will vary as it will depend on the parents’ work schedules along with the children’s school and extracurriculars, but will be communicated in advance. Some evening and weekend shifts may be necessary. Additionally, overtime will be occasionally required, which will be paid at a rate of 1.5x after 44 hours. The primary language of work for the position is English.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Assuming full responsibility for household and childcare in absence of parents;
- Coordinating and managing the children’s schedules, including tutoring sessions, extracurricular activities, sports, and educational programs;
- Transporting children to and from tutoring sessions, extracurricular activities, sporting events, and other scheduled commitments;
- Coordinating with tutors, coaches, activity providers, and other parents regarding schedules, pick-ups, drop-offs, and participation in activities;
- Assisting with the organization and preparation of materials, equipment, and supplies required for school, tutoring, and extracurricular activities;
- Planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children, preparing and packing their school lunches;
- Homework supervision and assisting with school related activities;
- Organizing and supervising play-dates, study groups, and visits from friends and undertaking appropriate outdoor and educational activities;
- Disciplining children according to the methods requested by the parents;
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home;
- Encouraging and supporting healthy lifestyle habits, including balanced nutrition, physical activity, and age-appropriate independence and responsibility;
- Managing daily routines, meal preparation, and laundry; and
- Any other duties that may be required.
You must have the following qualifications:
- Completion of secondary school;
- Experience working with or caring for children and teenagers in their home;
- Current CPR/First Aid certification from a recognized Canadian provider;
- Experience providing patient, nurturing care, and ensuring their safety and well-being;
- Experience independently coordinating and managing childcare, children’s schedules and transportation, children’s school and extracurriculars, and related household duties;
- Experience supporting children with daily routines and hygiene, and in preparing a balanced and nutritional diet;
- Experience maintaining clean and organized environments for children;
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record;
- Available nights to help/support with evenings on an ad hoc basis and managing children while parents are away travelling for work/on call basis; and
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
