Responsibilities
- Install, service, and overhaul heating and HVAC systems.
- Set up and service commercial and other refrigeration equipment.
- Install and maintain ventilation, air-handling, and air-conditioning systems.
- Review blueprints, specifications, and work instructions before beginning installations or repairs.
- Take measurements and establish proper layout points for equipment and system installation.
- Assist with preparing project tenders, estimates, and customer quotations.
- Diagnose and repair problems affecting heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heat pump systems.
- Assemble, connect, and replace refrigeration and air-conditioning components as required.
- Provide guidance and practical instruction to apprentices and junior workers.
- Measure, cut, fit, and join piping using appropriate welding and brazing methods.
- Communicate with customers regarding service requirements and completed work.
- Start and test newly installed or serviced systems and check for leaks and proper operation.
- Carry out routine maintenance, including refrigerant charging, regulator testing, and system calibration.
- Follow applicable gas codes and other technical requirements when performing installations and repairs.
- Safely recover, handle, and store refrigerants in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Repair or replace defective components in refrigeration, air-conditioning, ventilation, and heat pump systems.
- Prepare and provide accurate price estimates and quotations for customers.
