Responsibilities
- Operate and drive straight trucks and other commercial transport vehicles to transport freight and parcels on local and regional routes throughout Flin Flon and surrounding communities.
- Transport and deliver freight, parcels, and other goods between company facilities, customer locations, distribution centres, and designated delivery points.
- Plan daily transportation routes and schedules based on delivery requirements, road conditions, weather, traffic, and customer locations.
- Load, unload, inspect, and properly secure freight and cargo in accordance with company procedures and transportation safety requirements.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, including tires, brakes, lights, signals, safety equipment, and other vehicle systems.
- Monitor the condition of the vehicle and report mechanical defects, damage, safety concerns, or other problems to management or maintenance personnel.
- Ensure cargo is properly secured and protected during transportation to prevent shifting, damage, or loss during transit.
- Communicate with dispatchers, customers, and other drivers using mobile communication devices and onboard/computerized systems to coordinate deliveries and resolve transportation issues.
- Record and maintain accurate information relating to cargo, deliveries, kilometres travelled, fuel consumption, vehicle inspections, and hours of service.
- Complete and maintain delivery documentation, shipping records, manifests, bills of lading, and electronic delivery confirmations as required.
- Provide professional customer service when picking up and delivering freight and address delivery-related questions or concerns.
- Follow applicable Manitoba and federal transportation regulations, company policies, safe-driving procedures, and cargo-handling requirements.
- Perform minor roadside troubleshooting or emergency repairs when required and report major mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Use GPS, navigation systems, and other transportation technology to safely and efficiently complete local and regional delivery routes.
