Job Duties

Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials: Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy; Load and unload goods; Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions; Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques; Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed; Professionalism in customer service; Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment; Perform emergency roadside repairs; Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle; Receive and relay information to central dispatch; Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.

Certificates and Licences

Air Brakes Endorsement and Driver's
License (Class 1 or A)

Documentation Knowledge

Accident or incident reports; Bill
of lading; Driver logbook

Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip); Maintenance
and repair reports; Trip reports

Trucking and Equipment Experience

Refrigerated & Tractor-trailer

Communication Systems Experience

Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment; Trip recorder (on-board
computer)

Transportation and Travel Experience

Long-haul; National; Provincial/territorial

Security and Safety Requirements

Driver's validity licence check; Driving record check (abstract); Drug test

Transportation and Travel Requirements

Valid driver's licence; Willing to travel cross-border; Willing to travel for extended periods; Willing to
 travel internationally; Willing to travel overnight
